what should my child be eating at their age?
is my child getting all the nutrients they need?
how can I make mealtimes less stressful?
is my child eating enough fruit and vegetables?
does my child need any supplements?
If you'd like some reassurance or practical guidance, I'd be happy to help.
Are you wondering whether your child is eating a healthy, balanced diet? Are you wondering what your child should be eating at their age, whether they are getting enough nutrients, or how to manage meals when family life is busy?
You may simply want some reassurance that you’re offering your child the right balance of foods to support their growth, development and wellbeing.
As a specialist paediatric dietitian, I can provide personalised, practical advice to help you feel more confident about your child’s nutrition.
Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean a perfect diet.
What does a healthy, balanced diet look like for children?
Children need a variety of foods to provide the energy, protein, vitamins and minerals they need for growth and development.
A balanced diet generally includes a variety of starchy carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables, milk, dairy products or alternatives, protein-rich foods and fats and oils. There is also room for foods that are eaten for enjoyment.
A healthy relationship with food involves enjoying food, eating together as a family where possible and learning that foods don't need to be labelled as “good” or “bad”.

How can I help?
Together we can:
understand what a balanced diet looks like for your child
make sure your child is getting a good range of nutrients
discuss ideas for balanced meals and snacks
understand appropriate portion sizes
encourage a wider variety of foods
navigate food and nutrition advice you’ve heard online or from other sources
help you feel more confident about what to offer your child
discuss any specific nutritional concerns alongside their general diet
We'll focus on practical changes that feel achievable rather than trying to create a "perfect" diet.
FAQs
Does my child's diet need to be unhealthy for us to book?
1
Not at all. You don't need to have a major concern before seeking support. You may simply want reassurance that your child's diet is providing the nutrients they need, help with making meals more balanced, or practical ideas for improving variety. Sometimes having an experienced paediatric dietitian look at your child's diet can give you the reassurance and confidence you're looking for.
Will you give me a meal plan?
2
Not necessarily. I don't believe that a rigid meal plan is right for every child or family. Instead, I'll provide personalised advice and practical ideas based on your child's nutritional needs, preferences and your family's routine. Depending on your child's needs, this may include meal and snack ideas, food combinations, ways to increase variety or suggestions for nutritionally valuable foods to include.
What nutrients should I be particularly aware of on a vegan diet?
3
If your main concern is your child's food variety or selective eating, I can help you understand whether their current diet is nutritionally adequate and identify ways to support their nutritional intake.
If your child's eating is significantly restricted or you have more complex concerns around food, we can discuss whether a dedicated fussy-eating consultation or more specialist support would be more appropriate.
Do you recommend vitamins or supplements?
4
Supplements aren't necessary for every child, and whether they are appropriate depends on your child's age, diet and individual circumstances. I'll help you understand which nutrients may need particular attention and whether supplementation may be appropriate for your child.
Can I book a consultation just for reassurance?
5
Absolutely. You don't need to wait until you're really struggling. Sometimes parents simply want an expert opinion on their child's diet and reassurance that they are meeting their nutritional needs. A consultation can give you clarity around what's important, what doesn't need worrying about and whether there are any simple changes worth making.
What if my child's needs are more complex than general healthy eating?
6
That's absolutely fine. During the consultation, we'll discuss your child's individual needs and concerns. If they would benefit from more specialist or medical support, I'll explain what I recommend and, where appropriate, suggest working alongside your child's existing healthcare team.
